Kalib
Hello! My name is Kalib Jackson, one of the artists and owners of American Inkwell. I was raised in Peoria County and have spent my whole life being artistically creative. Shortly after getting my first couple tattoos as an adult, I sought out and obtained a formal 3 year apprenticeship in a local tattoo studio in 2002 and worked under a number of artists including my business partner Jason Parry. I have lived in the Pekin community since then and have dedicated a full time career to the craftsmanship of; customer engagement, consultation, design work and application of traditional tattooing.
My range of expertise includes simplistic traditional tattoos, full sleeve, portrait work, black and gray, color, and cover-up tattooing. I have no singularly preferred tattoo art style, I am just thrilled to be able to work with an individual to give them my creativity and my 20 plus years of experience in tattooing to create a piece of art to wear proudly for a lifetime. Attention to detail and patience in any job no matter how small or big, is what drives my work ethic. I enjoy making people happy with all forms of art I can share in life: words, thoughts, pictures, music, food, interactions, expression and interpretations.

My name is Jason Parry , I grew up in the area, and graduated from Washington Community High School in 1990. The October after I graduated I went to serve in the US Army. After my time served I went to school full time at ICC and then Lincoln Land Community College. I loved the art classes I took at these colleges and loved being creative. It was almost 30 years ago , in 1996, when I started tattooing at NICK’S tattoos on derby street in Pekin. I did a formal apprenticeship there and worked for Nick for 10 years until Kalib and I started American inkwell in 2006.

The Shop
Established in 2006 by Jason Parry and Kalib Jackson, American Inkwell is Pekin’s most prestigious and longest running tattoo parlor, offering custom tattooing in historic downtown Pekin. After both starting their tattoo careers with formal apprenticeships at Pekin’s only parlor, Nick’s Tattoos, in 1996 and 2002 respectively; Jason and Kalib opened American Inkwell with the direction of operating a fully custom tattoo parlor in a relaxed studio with an inviting and comfortable environment. Both artists get yearly education in fields such as blood-borne pathogens, sterilization, safe tattooing, first aid and wound care. Both artists comply with the state body art code through the Illinois Department of Public Health and are registered tattoo artists with Tazewell County. The shop is a registered “Body Art Facility” and complies to yearly inspection by the Illinois Dept of Public Health and goes above and beyond all environmental health standards for the cleanest possible application and visit in our tattoo studio.
